How is Bruxing caused?

The habit of bruxing is caused primarily by stress, and nervous tension. over time, it may cause serious damage to your teeth, including:

Visible wear and damage to your teeth jaw joint and muscle tenderness Tooth sensitivity and pain

Prevention and cure

Unfortunately, bruxism is difficult to cure. However, you can effectively stop the damage from bruxing by using Powrgard® for Teeth Grinding appliances as a protective barrier between the teeth, reducing tension in the muscles and preventing tooth damage caused by bruxing. Bruxism damage can be repaired, but the treatment is very expensive and is often not a permanent solution. The dental work repairs the tooth but fails to solve the problem, the bruxing usually continues requiring the treatment to be repeated. The treatment involves replacing severely damaged teeth with an artificial tooth, so it is best to discover the problem before damage occurs.

How do I know if I grind my teeth?

Many people clench of grind their teeth, particularly in stressful situations. Although tooth clenching and grinding can occur at any time, it most commonly occurs at night when sleeping. Research shows this may only be a short period at night, but if chronic bruxing continues over a period of years, tooth and jaw joint damage will occur. Once the enamel has worn off the outer surface of the teeth the damage an wear caused by bruxing becomes even more severe and can result in losing up to one third of each tooth.
